Working Flexibly

Castor offers a choice to work remotely, or from our offices in Amsterdam or New York when you are near one. We make documentation everyone’s responsibility and focus on asynchronous communication. This enables us to move projects forward without the need for all stakeholders to be available at the same time and provides team members the ability to determine the working hours that best suit their lifestyle.

Equal Opportunities

People are recognized based on their output, not based on their (place of) input. We encourage a culture of transparency, with information and opportunities being equally accessible to all employees.

Healthy Workplace

Working remotely has many benefits, from productivity growth to flexibility improvements. It can also be an isolating experience, especially if you are new to it. We want to make sure you stay happy and healthy while working from home.

Cultivating Culture

Culture is a significant factor setting Castor apart! While working remotely, we want to keep true to our values and grow our purpose-driven culture.

Recruiting worldwide

Being a remote-first company enables us to hire the best talent worldwide and build the strongest team possible to bring clinical research into the 21st century!

Keeping Culture Alive

Connecting our remote-first colleagues
  • We organize a yearly, all-company retreat. COVID makes it hard to predict when our next in-person event will take place, but we’ll keep you posted.

  • We host virtual celebrations. In the past we’ve had chess tournaments, bingo and a magic show!

  • We encourage online meet-ups to connect with colleagues on non-work topics.

  • We celebrate and uplift each other through slack channels dedicated to our pets, our love of food, and funny quotes heard at work to name a few.

  • We run open nominations for Castorians who have truly showcased our values, and celebrate these during monthly company wide ‘all-hands’ meetings

Tools and Technology

Setting our team up for success
  • Video chat: There’s no replacing face-to-face time with your team and co-workers, that’s why we use Zoom for our meetings.

  • Team handbook: We value written communication, and use confluence to create a culture of transparency

  • Speedy and social communication: Slack is used for a mixture of formal and informal conversations. Want to run something by a coworker? Discuss a topic in a group? Or even talk about something fun in the #social channel. Well, here you can do that!

  • Creative collaboration: There is always space to brainstorm new, and develop current ideas. We use Asana, Trello, and Miro to put our thoughts into action.

Your Wellbeing

We believe it’s possible to achieve anything with a healthy and happy team
Maintain a schedule Maintain a schedule

Set a routine as if you are going into the office. This will help you maintain a strong boundary between work and home life.

💡tip 1: Start your day or lunchtime with a walk in your neighborhood to make sure you keep a fresh mind

💡tip 2: Make sure to clearly separate work and personal life. If you work from your dining table or living room, you could store your set-up in a different room during the evenings.

💡tip 3: Be sure that you are working reasonable hours. It can be tempting to work more when at home, however, it can be taxing on your health and well-being, so set healthy boundaries.

Exercise and meditate Exercise and meditate

Exercising for 20 – 30 minutes a day can significantly lower anxiety levels. Go for a walk, bike ride, or if you haven’t found your own online training yet, post in our #ActivityPoints slack group to see if a fellow Castorian can share ideas for a personalized at-home workout!

Meditation is a great tool to combat stress and negative emotions. Join along with the weekly meditation sessions you’ll find added into your work schedule. If you prefer to focus alone, you can also use Castor’s company subscription to Calm.

Improve your immunity Improve your immunity

Make a commitment to staying strong by regularly washing your hands with soap for 20 seconds, getting enough sleep, eating well, staying hydrated and taking vitamins.

Keep social Keep social

While physical contact is limited when working remotely, it is important to remain connected to your friends, family, colleagues and professional network. Make sure to include phone calls, video chats or virtual coffee breaks in your daily schedule.

Stay informed Stay informed

While it is important to stay informed, it is a good idea to manage your exposure to media coverage as this can increase feelings of fear and anxiety. Be mindful of sources of information and ensure you are accessing good quality and accurate information.
