The opportunity

Castor has reached a critical junction on our journey to bring lasting change to medical research. Running over 4000 studies, including 200 on COVID-19, and our meteoric growth in commercial research, it’s now time to ensure we are prepared for the road ahead.


This comes with the proactive decision for change, as our CTO transfers into the role of Principal Innovation Engineer, reporting directly into our new Head of Engineering. This new structure will allow you to take ownership of our engineering organisation, including our product's technical roadmap and technical practices.


An integral part of Castor’s Senior Leadership Team, you’ll work closely with our Head of Product and report directly to our CEO, being the coach and voice of our Engineering team.


Our Engineering team

Working on our platform are 15 ‘Castorians’ organized into Product teams, a Platform Team and a Design Systems team. How would we describe the team? Vibrant, purpose-driven and internationally hailing - with 10+ nationalities.


Our diverse team of engineers iteratively develop our cloud-based, multi-tenant, web applications. On what stack? Each product has a Javascript frontend and a PHP, MariaDB, backend.

What you’ll do

You’ll manage and develop Castor’s engineering practices. How? By growing and mentoring our tech team, nurturing a resilient culture and shaping our architecture and engineering practices which support our ambitions as a global player in healthtech. You’ll also:


  • Proudly own and champion Castor’s technical strategy, ensuring high value technical decisions
  • Collaborate on Castor’s roadmap to ensure team wide understanding and efficient delivery
  • Guide the team through feature builds, automated tests and refactoring code
  • Ensuring an optimal and on-going collaboration between engineering and product


What you’ll bring

  • Know how to run and deliver B2B, web-based, software solutions
  • Experience or understanding of a broad tech stack and good technical depth
  • Knowledge and ability to scale web-applications in the cloud in a secure and reliable manner
  • Understand and advocate for strong collaboration with Product teams
  • Bring the adaptability and energy to support an ever-changing and dynamic startup
